Student Story - Nick Phoenix

“My name is Nick and have had the joy of studying as a first-year independent student this past year at St Hild alongside working with House of Prayer Sheffield and joining in mission and prayer across the city.

Last month I had the amazing opportunity of being able to join a team through connections with 24/7 Prayer to help facilitate and set up a prayer room at a discipleship camp in the Ukrainian mountains with more than 120 young believers from all across Ukraine.

This trip was such a blessing in many ways! It felt like a massive honour to be invited to join this camp and I personally felt like I received so much more than anything I gave out. I was blown away and mesmerised by the wildness of the passion, desperation and hunger that these young Ukrainians carried and the deep well of joy that Jesus was stirring here unlike what I’ve seen before.

I found it miraculous witnessing this hunger in the midst of unimaginable pain and shaking that the war has brought and felt like such a testimony to the unchanging hope and joy of Jesus that shines all the brighter in the darkest of times.

I personally feel so refreshed and inspired by seeing the beauty and power of what costly worship and prayer looks like, which is the sweetest incense to Jesus, and feels in a funny sort of way like I was learning how to pray all over again!  Like Paul and Silas worshipping at midnight in prison, I’m excited to see how the explosive joy and freedom of these brothers and sisters is going to be heard by the listening world and bring freedom to multitudes globally!"
