A Journey of Faith and Learning: Phyllis Bosworth's Path at St Hild Lincoln

Phyllis Bosworth, a dedicated lay minister and Learning Resource and Student Engagement Coordinator, has recently completed her BA in Theology, Ministry, and Mission at St Hild Lincoln. Phyllis, who has a mixed-race family with her two children and husband, has West African roots in Ghana. She embarked on her theological journey in 2017 with the Lincoln School of Theology, which is now part of St Hild Lincoln, initially enrolling as a potential Anglican ordinand. However, she soon decided to pursue her studies independently, culminating in her graduation in June 2024.

Phyllis’s journey at St Hild Lincoln has been marked by significant challenges and personal growth. Reflecting on her experiences, she acknowledged the disappointment of not progressing through the Bishop’s Advisory Panel (BAP) as hoped. Yet, she views her overall journey as a profound process of discernment and trust in divine guidance. “We know that all things work together for good to them that love God and have been called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28), she quotes, emphasising how this scripture has been a cornerstone of strength throughout her studies.

Studying at St Hild Lincoln has been transformative for Phyllis, both intellectually and spiritually. The institution, known for its supportive environment and diverse community, provided her with a safe space to engage in critical thinking and reflective learning. She highlights the enriching experience of studying theology, which went beyond academic pursuit to deepen her faith in Christ. She credits the talented staff and students at St Hild Lincoln for their support and for fostering a welcoming community.

A unique aspect of St Hild Lincoln that independent student Phyllis appreciated was its inclusive and adaptable curriculum. Whether students were training for ministry or studying independently, the modules were designed to be relevant and beneficial. For example, she found the "Relationship and Emotional Management" module particularly valuable in her professional role in the education sector. She believes that true ministry extends into the marketplace, where individuals are equipped by church ministers to serve and perfect the saints (Ephesians 4:11-12).

Her experience at St Hild Lincoln has been overwhelmingly positive. She praises the institution for its combination of beautiful scenery and a community that embraces diverse backgrounds and faiths. Despite living outside of Lincoln, she never felt left out, feeling supported and blessed by the community of staff and students.

Looking to the future, Phyllis enthusiastically recommends St Hild Lincoln to prospective students, particularly those contemplating further studies. She encourages others to trust in God’s plan and assures them of a rewarding and enriching experience at the institution. As for herself, if she decides to pursue a master’s degree, St Hild Lincoln remains her top choice.

Phyllis Bosworth’s journey at St Hild Lincoln stands as a testament to the power of faith, resilience, and the pursuit of knowledge within a supportive and nurturing environment.Phyllis family
