About John
John is a genuine Essex man, and even used to drive a white van. Ordained in 1981 after studying at King’s College London and St John’s Durham, his 40-year ministry was divided equally between parishes and Diocesan posts. He retired in 2020, but continues to teach his first love, Liturgy, as well as some Mission and Biblical Studies.
In 2024, he completed doctoral studies on Anglican churches which don’t like liturgy, and has a book on this subject in preparation. He has written several books on the areas of worship and church renewal, and copious quantities of Grove books. He is a musician, and lives in Sheffield with his wife Chris, an ex-teacher who now works as a Care Support Worker. They have a daughter and two sons, one of whom lives in the Netherlands with their only granddaughter.
